Perception is Everything
So last week I spoke about the things you claim your business to be, and this week I want to talk about how people perceive your business.
I was waiting to cross the street yesterday afternoon and noticed this picture taped to the light pole.
So, consider this. You are looking for a home business opportunity that will allow you to make money. This ad promises it. It also promises enough part time money to overtake your full time income. It promises more from life.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? Will you tear off one of the little tabs at the bottom and text your first name to the number listed? Probably not.
Why? Because this ratty photocopied ad is taped over the top of another ratty photocopied ad, which is in turn taped to a light pole.
Because this is the way they have chosen to promote it, it instills no confidence in me and leads me to the conclusion that it is the exact opposite of the “honest income opportunity it promises”.
Before you put out anything about your business, consider how the people you are trying to reach will perceive it. It should be a professional extension of your opportunity, consistently branded, clear call to action, and sells the product. You can have the greatest product in the world, but if your collateral doesn’t do these things, people perceive your business as less than perfect.
Road test it with friends or people within your organisation. Try and avoid family, they will just encourage you no matter what.
Whatever you do – don’t tape it to a pole.
