My Issue With “Internet Marketers” and 6 People You Should Pay Attention To

Sat ,17/04/2010

I rarely use this platform to rant, so I hope what I am about to write is more constructive than anything for anyone who reads this.

I am over “internet marketers”. Every third person I get following me on Twitter is an “internet marketer” (incidentally, I’m going to continue to use “internet marketer” in inverted commas because I believe at it’s core, it’s nothing more than a catch phrase).

Auto-pilot cash schemes, MLM, Twitter Cash Flow funnels, squeeze pages, videos that I must view now because they are being “taken down or could be taken down at any moment”, accounts of people making millions in days by doing nothing, etc etc - it’s all crap.

“Internet marketing” to me is just a whole lot of people telling other Internet marketers how to make money online and selling affiliate products – essentially a continual circle of resellers of the above mentioned items. I know this because as each new “internet marketer” follows me, I check out their site. Which 9 times out of 10 will redirect to a squeeze page I have seen a million times before.

27 People You Should Follow On Twitter

Fri ,07/08/2009

While there are some on Twitter who place value on the number of people they have following them, or that they follow, for me Twitter is about extracting the maximum value from a carefully selected group of selected people. Let’s face it, who has the time to trawl through tens of thousands of tweets to find something of interest?

I’m a big believer in getting the most out of your feed and rather than post multiple tweets about who you should follow on “Follow Friday”, I wanted to take the time to list them all and give a snapshot of who they are. When I was looking at this post, I thought of making it “50 people you should follow”. However, in the interests of reading time, and to make it just a little different, I have decided to make it 27 people you should follow. Obviously each niche in the online world will have their own rockstar tweeters, but as far as online business and marketing goes, these are the people whose tweets I derive the most value from (in no particular order).
